Elim Pentecostal Church Holme Valley
"Elim Pentecostal Church Holme Valley is a lively, community centred church in Honley, full of ordinary men and women who know the joy of a personal relationship with a living, powerful God."

Church Mission Statement

Our mission is to seize the window of opportunity to extend God's kingdom by:

  • Introducing residents to personal salvation in Jesus Christ.
  • Playing a positive role in the Holme Valley community, collaborating with local churches and the business sector.

We strive to encourage and disciple believers in their Christian walk, helping them to reach their full potential in Christ and to actively participate in the life of our local congregation.

Our Vision

To equip the church for ministry and service. Currently this includes the preparation for a Money Advice Service that the church will administer from Cafe Plus.

History

The name “Elim” comes from the book of Exodus where the Israelites, leaving the bondage of Egypt under the leadership of Moses, found an oasis called Elim. This represented a place of physical and spiritual refreshing for a weary people.

“Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve wells of water and seventy palm trees; so they camped there by the waters.”
—Exodus 15:27

The Elim Pentecostal Church was founded in 1915 by Welsh revivalist George Jeffreys. Between 1915 and 1934 Jeffreys conducted evangelistic missions throught the UK. This unknown preacher would begin a mission with a handful of people. By the end of the week thousands would clamour for a seat. Miracles of healing took place. After the mission very large churches were established.

In 1931 the Elim Pentecostal Church Huddersfield was formed when Jeffreys visited the town with a message of salvation and a demonstration of the Holy Spirit’s presence. The Huddersfield Church has expanded into a large international congregation of all ages.

Elim Church Holme Valley grew out of Elim Pentecostal Church Huddersfield in 2004. We are a small but growing congregation from across the Holme Valley. We reflect our Pentecostal roots. Our worship is both lively and informal.
