The Discipline of God – Hebrews 12: 4-11 

This Sunday I tackle a hot potato of a subject within churches: “How does God discipline?”  There are some well respected theologians (and some of my ministerial colleagues) who will reply that He does so by plotting to send a few disasters your way. Others might say He stops answering your prayers, plays hard to get, or goes silent on you. Some even suggest He sends death into your family or blights you with some disease to make you more holy and a better Christian.  What are we to make of this? Does God in His anger punish us to bring us in line? Does God enlist Satan to cause havoc in our lives so that we would be taught a lesson? These are all important questions, because not only do they reflect our view of God, but moreover our understanding of the cross. This is an extensive subject and if you wish me to talk further about whether God is responsible for tragedies and what we are to make of Job I will gladly do so.

Where we meet

Our church is based in Honley, in the Holme Valley, four miles south of Huddersfield. We worship on Sunday evenings at 18:00pm in the Trinity Church building at Moorbottom.
